MEASURE

We measure you in the room. Shoulder, chest, waist, sleeve, seat. Inches and centimetres. Both.

CUT

Navy Super 120s on the table. We cut the jacket from those measures. The coat waits.

CANVAS

Horsehair sits inside the chest. You do not see it. The jacket does not fold when you sit.

PRESS

We press the lapel over a block. It still rolls after a full day. A bag crush takes that work out.

I put the navy jacket on to go down for the paper, which is not an occasion. I am 58. High-street jackets start chewing the back of my neck before I have finished a mug. This one has not. I can reach the kettle and the back stays put. I have worn it four mornings this week.

I asked for a coat that met the shoe. I am 5 ft 11, and ready-made coats either bury the wrist or leave a gap over the sock. The camel one meets the shoe. I wore it over the knit to a lunch in town. Nobody asked who made it. I just felt dressed, which is the thing I had been missing.

What do I need for a first year?

A jacket, a coat, a knit, and a pair of shoes. Wear them until they feel like yours. If you still want more after that, write to us. We will not load you with another piece on day one.

I have not dressed this way. Where do I start?

Write to the house. We start with a talk and a full set of measures. The navy jacket is usually first. You do not have to know cloth when you arrive.

How do I keep it?

Brush it after you wear it. Hang it on a shaped hanger. Do not crush the chest in a bag. If the lapel goes flat, send it back and we will press the roll in again.
